We are excited to announce that on Thursday, August 31, the Law Society approved the
principles and key features
that will form the foundation for proposed amendments to the
Legal Profession Act
.
The next step in this important work is engaging with the public and the profession. These engagement opportunities will begin in the coming weeks and will run throughout the fall.
“We are committed to providing the public and the profession with many opportunities to have discussions, ask questions and share your thoughts,” says Don Thompson, QC, CEO, Law Society of Alberta. “Our engagement approach will allow for many different forms of discussion, and we hope that you find a way to participate that suits you.”
The goal of the
proposed amendments
is to allow future Board tables the flexibility to modernize the structure and work of the Law Society over time and through discussions with the profession. The amendments will not bind us to specific models but will allow the future Board tables to develop rules to address key issues and be responsive to the evolving legal marketplace and particularly to addressing the unmet legal needs of Albertans.
We want to hear from you.
