Bencher Election Nomination Period Ends Friday, September 15, 2017
We invite you to help build a Bencher table that reflects the different practice settings, cultures, backgrounds and life experiences of Alberta's legal community. Consider letting your name stand for election.

If you are interested in becoming a candidate, we encourage you to learn more about the Law Society's 2017 - 2019 Strategic Plan and our mandate to regulate the legal profession in the public interest.

The Law Society must receive nominations by Friday, September 15.

The online voting period for the Bencher election opens on November 1 and closes on November 15. See other important dates for both candidates and voters.
Reminder: Declare Your CPD Plan Before September 30
Visit the Lawyer Portal to develop and declare your 2017  Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Plan. The CPD declaration period opened on July 1 and  declarations are due on September 30.

Failure to develop and declare a CPD plan will result in an administrative suspension.

Free Workshop: Learn Practical Skills to Work with Vulnerable Clients
Register for a free workshop for lawyers and articling students. Through simulation and skill building exercises, participants will learn practical skills to work with vulnerable clients.

Summer Student Recruitment Dates
The 2018 first year summer student recruitment period will be Tuesday, February 20, 2018 to Friday, February 23, 2018. No offer of employment shall be made before 5 p.m. Friday, February 23, 2018. Such offers must remain open for acceptance for a minimum of 24 hours. An offer of employment may be made at any time after the recruitment period and shall be left open for a reasonable period of time. For further information, please refer to Rule 49.2 and 49.3.
Articling Student Recruitment Dates
The 2018 recruitment period will be from Monday, June 4, 2018 to Friday, June 15, 2018. Employers may only make offers of employment after 8 a.m. on the second Tuesday of the recruitment period (June 12). These offers must remain open for acceptance for 24 hours. For further information, please refer to Rule 49.1 and 49.2.
